Our Partners

Tanzania has a number of Partners who are supporting the Health sector in different areas of the sector including HIV/AIDS and Maternal Health.

Benjamin William Mkapa HIV/AIDS Foundation (BMAF) is working in close partnership with the Government of Tanzania, Non Governmental Organisation and Development partners to complement the national efforts in response to HIV/AIDS pandemic and other aspects related to strengthening of health systems and service delivery. 

Government Partners
BMAF works in close collaboration with the Government institutions particularly the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MOHSW) of both Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar; Prime Minister’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Presidents Office Public Service Management (POPSM) and the Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS).

Under the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare, the Foundation is particularly working closely with the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP), the Directorate of Human Resource Development and Directorate of Personnel and Administration.

Partnership with the PMORALG is further extended and binded to the 52 Local Government Authorities ( 49 in Mainland and 3 in Tanzania Isles) where the Emergency Hiring and Mkapa Fellows Programmes are being implemented.

International Partners
There have been various Development Partners that support the district health system strengthening and service delivery through our  two innovative programmes which include Royal Norwegian Embassy, Global Fund to fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM); Clinton Foundation and
Abbott Fund.

Other Development Partners that joins forces with BMAF in providing technical assistance to the Health sector include the World Health Organization (WHO), Swiss Development Cooperation, Canadian International Development Agency, World Bank, GTZ, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Irish Aid and  USAID.

Foundation further partners with Capacity Project-Intarhealth in enhancing the health systems strengthening mainly in Human Resource for Health interventions in the19 beneficiary districts under the Emergency Hiring Project through funding from USAID.


Moreover our institution is  collaborating with Ifakara Health Institute through funding support from World Lung Foundation in improving Maternal and Newborn Health Services in Iramba and Singida Rural district councils.

HIV/AIDS Regionalized Partners:

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has allocated Development partners and their related technical agencies that support HIV/AIDS programme into the existing 23 regions of Tanzania where we also currently operate through our two  programmes which covers 82% (19 out of 23) of the Tanzanian regions.

Majority of these technical agencies are United States of America supported agencies and the Clinton Foundation.
The regionalization modality has facilitated better coordination and harmonization of support towards HIV/AIDS in the health sector and effective distribution of resources.

The Regionalized partners include Family Health International (FHI),  Walter Reeds-Department of Defence (DoD), Clinton Foundation (CHAI), AIDS Relief, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), Harvard University and ICAP-Columbia University.

Mkapa Foundation through the Mkapa Fellows Programme and Emerency Hiring Project work hand in hand with Regionalised Partners at national and district level in advancing HIV/AIDS services and improving the district health systems.
