Norwegian Govt extends MFP support

The Norwegian government has pledged continued financial support to Mkapa Fellows Programme (MFP) of the Benjamin William Mkapa HIV/AIDS Foundation(BMAF). The commitment was made by the Norwegian government through its Counsellor, Mr. Stein Torgersbraaten of the Norwegian Royal Embassy in Dar es Salaam in a joint annual meeting between the government of Tanzania through the ministry of health and social welfare, ministry of Finance, Prime Minister's Office- Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG) the Royal Norwegian government through her Dar es Salaam Embassy officials and BMAF secretariat held at the BMAF conference room in November, 2007.

Mr. Torgersbraaten said his government recognised the good job which Mkapa Fellows and BMAF staff were doing to serve thousands of the underprivileged people in the rural communities in the areas of health services, particularly HIV/AIDS.

"We are aware of the good work that you are doing and so we pledge our commitment to continue funding MFP until 2010" he assured.

The chairman, Dr.Zacharia Berege, who is also the Director for Hospital Services at the ministry of health and social welfare, thanked the Norwegian government for the financial commitment made in supporting the Mkapa Fellows Programme and the long-term pertnership between the two countries.

The Norwegian Government and Clinton Foundation are the main funders of the much admired and home grown innovative Mkapa Fellows Programme.
