The Fellows and other health staff will also undergo training on Emergency Obstetric care for 4 months as from June 2013.

The implementation of the program follows successful fundraising in June 2012 whereby corporates, development partners and individuals pledged a total of Tshs. 3.2bn/= to support the first wave of the program. Following this initiative, the program has officially commenced in 2013.

Dr. Senkoro further added that up to December 2012, 61% of the pledges had been honored by the various partners, “We thank all our funders and sponsors, that extend from Development Partners to more than 50 various Corporates and Individuals.

Meanwhile, Mkapa Foundation’s Program Manager for Health Services Delivery, Dr. Zuweina Kondo-Sushy, also highlighted some key findings that were noted during the rapid assessment survey done in the beneficiary districts in late 2012. She said “ the survey facilitated identification of areas that need health workers, type of skills missing, type of theatre required if its for renovation or construction and so forth. Impliedly, some gaps shall be attended by MFP II and other gaps will be addressed by the respective district authorities and other partners or NGOS within the area”.
