In recognizing their valuable contribution to the Mkapa Fellows Phase 2 Programme fundraising efforts, the Mkapa Foundation awarded indigenous companies, which have pledged and contributed enormously to the Programme.

During a brief cocktail ceremony on 29th June 2012, held at the Double Tree Hotel, Dar es Salaam, the Settler of the Mkapa Foundation, the Former President of United Republic of Tanzania, His Excellency Benjamin William Mkapa, awarded certificates of recognition to companies and institutions that pledged to support the second phase of the Mkapa Fellows Programme. The pledges were received by the Foundation during the just ended and successful fundraising gala night held on 5th June 2012 whereby funding support worth TZS 3.2billion was realized, that will support first year of the initiative.

“What we did was to beg for alms, but we are proud that this happened within ourselves. This was a contribution from our local companies,” he said.

Underscoring the importance of companies and individuals in contributing for the country’s development, he said the endeavor highlighted the dignity of Tanzanians.

His Excellency Mkapa expressed optimism that other public institutions and private firms would also support the initiative to raise 16 billion Tanzanian Shillings, for implementing the five-year health Programme.

“This was the initial stage of fundraising in Dar Es Salaam, we plan to do the same in other regions. I’m confident that Tanzanians can support their own local initiative,” he said.
