The Benjamin William Mkapa HIV/AIDS Foundation Settler, H.E Former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Benjamin William Mkapa has hailed Mkapa Fellows for their hardworking spirit which has earned the Foundation many accolades from the government, development partners and members of the general public. Speaking with Fellows at a cocktail party organized by the Foundation's management team at the Dar es Salaam International Conference Centre on July 29th 2008, His Excellency, Benjamin Mkapa said he has been receiving appreciative remarks from Regional Commissioners and Members of Parliaments on commendable Fellows work. "I must say I am proud of you, for you have lifted the name of the Foundation high" he said. The Settler further noted that BMAF has moved from job creation organization to service delivery organization. "At first I thought you are just going to recruit and thats it. But now I see the concentration is on service delivery to the underserved communities which is greatly appreciated by myself and the beneficiaries" he noted.
Hon. Mkapa also thanked the Government of Tanzania for committing and taking responsibility of giving the chance of Fellows to be mainstreamed into the Public service system. He attributed this to the Fellows exemplary work and commitment to serve the needy. His Excellency further called upon a collective response through African countries to really study the impact that HIV/AIDS would have brought in this country and Africa at large in the coming decades, so that together they could address preventive strategies that would effectively reduce the pandemic. Meanwhile, welcoming the Settler to interact with Fellows, the BMAF CEO, Dr. Ellen Mkondya-Senkoro informed him that as a result of Fellows commitment and dedication, some of them have been co-opted in their work stations to work as Medical Officer in-charge , District Pharmacist, and In-charge of Care and Treatment Clinics respectively . This has been noted by Fellows from Newala, Kilolo and Handeni districts. "I would like to inform you that Fellows have been doing well working in close collaboration with District Councils officials in attaining district HIV/AIDS objectives and this would be demonstrated in their presentation to follow next" she said. Dr. Senkoro thanked Hon. Mkapa for taking time off his busy schedule to meet the Fellows. She also thanked BMAF Trustees and Board of Directors members who participated in the event. Members of the management team were also saluted for their commitment and hardworking in sailing Mkapa Foundation in the right direction. Nevertheless the Norway Government and Clinton Foundation were recognized by their financial support rendered to the Fellows Programme. 63 Fellows from 23 districts across the country met and interacted with the Settler, Board members and members of the management team as they end their two weeks Continuing Professional Development Programme session held in Dar es Salaam.
