Current Events The Foundation is currently conducting operational research on Capacity assessment of Council Health Management Team (CHMT) and Hospital Management Team (HMT) on addressing Human Resource Management aspects which covers six districts of Kishapu, Meatu, Sikonge, Handeni, Pangani and Hai. The establishement of the Mkapa Fellows Alumni Association (MFAA) has started with the orientation of the 1st and 2nd Batches Fellows through the support of Mkapa Foundation Management team and local consultant, Mrs Margaret Kasembe. The Fellows representative that have formulated an Alumni Steering Committee is actively involved in the process and is anticipated by early next year 2009 the MFAA will be officially launched. The Foundation is in final stages of developing an Advocacy Strategy on Human Resource for Health aiming to complement the national efforts and as part of the implementation of the National Human Resource for Health Strategic Plan which is striving to address the current human resource crisis. To improve the monitoring of the programmes managed by the Foundation, we are working in collaboration with Netsoft to update, store and analyse programme data in order to capture desirable and result oriented reports of the programme.
The Foundation is in the process of mainstreaming Fellows to the Public Service, this is implemented in close collaboration with, PMORALG, POPSM and MOHSW . The POPSM has already provided a permit to mainstream the 61 Fellows into Public Service for the FY 2008/9; whereby 40 of them undee the age of 45year will enter into Permanent and Pensionable system whereas 21 aged between 45 and 60 years will be employed under contract basis with Local Government Authorities.. Following a wide stakeholders consultative meeting held a month ago, the National HRH supportive supervision tool is in final stages of incorporating valuable inputs from the respective partners. The tool aims at tracking human resource for health at the health facility in order to have proper systems for HRH planning, recruitment, retention and productivity. The review of the tool is led by the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare under the facilitation of the Mkapa Foundation in collaboration with Capacity Project.
