Training and Workshops

Recruitment and deployment of the Mkapa Fellows under Mkapa Fellows Programme to 33 rural districts1 and Emergence Hiring Project to 19 districts2 has been completed, thus making a total of 275 employees of which 99 from MFP and 176 from EHP.

Prior to deployment employees are oriented on the programmes through a workshop conducted at identified zonal training centers for two to three days. An orientation on the programmes is also conducted jointly to employees, District & Regional officials before deployment. The orientation resulted into building a team spirit among the newly recruited Fellows and the district/regional authorities before reporting to their respective districts. It also built a common understanding on various administrative and programmatic matters related to the Mkapa Fellows Programme and how to improve HIV/AIDS programme at district level.

To build their skills in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment, health management and data management, the employees under both programmes receives a comprehensive training on HIV/AIDS conducted for not less than 14 days for hires under EHP and 21 days for Fellows under MFP. The training is conducted in the Zonal Training Centres followed by a graduation ceremony.

Another in-service training "Continuing Professional Development training" for Mkapa Fellows is conducted twice a year as per the signed agreements with their employers. In last year 2007/08 the training for the first and second batch Fellows was conducted from 20th to 27th October 2007 in Dar Es Salaam. The training was on HIV/AIDS work place intervention and Nutrition Care/support to People living with HIV/AIDS which was run by AMREF and CONSENUTH respectively.

It is expected that, the skills attained will facilitate them to support the districts in initiating HIV/AIDS workplace intervention.

Again in this year (2008/09) all Fellows batch one and two, came for a two weeks refresher training on basic computer skills (Microsoft office, Excel, Powerpoint, emailing and Care and treatment data management.
