The Benjamin William Mkapa HIV/AIDS Foundation (BMAF) has supported Micheweni and Kilolo District Councils with two vehicles to scale up fight against HIV/AIDS pandemic in their respective rural communities.Handing over the two cars in Dar es Salaam to the Director for Health in the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare-Zanzibar, Dr. Juma Abdalah Malick and Kilolo District Executive Director, Mr. Bosco Ndunguru , the BMAF Chief Executive Officer over the week end, Dr. Ellen Mkondya-Senkoro reiterated her Foundation commitment to human resources for health and provision of health services in the hard to reach areas of rural Tanzania. Our commitment to the health sector does not end with recruitment, training, deployement and retention of health professionals. "We strive to go an extra mile to look into ways to support district systems by providing working equipments such as computers,internet and now vehicles to easy transportation of blood samples to regional hospitals and out reach programmes in the rural communities" she pointed out. Dr.Senkoro said that Mkapa Foundation managed to procure the two Toyota Hilux Pick Up through the help of Norwegian government and Clinton Foundation.  The two vehicles that were handed over on the week end were worth 56 million Tsh. Moving a vote of thanks to BMAF Secretariat, Dr. Malick said his ministry and Micheweni district council appreciated the support and assured BMAF that the vehilces will be effectively utilised to speed up delivery of HIV/AIDS care and treatment services to Micheweni in Pemba.The Kilolo District Executive Director, Mr. Bosco Ndunguru said he was extremely greatful for the BMAF support and pledged proper care and utilisation of the vehicle. "I think Dr. Malick said it all. In the same way, we thank Mkapa Foundation for this support. The vehicle which we have just been given will help our district health team to take health services close to wananchi especially those living in the rural areas" he added. Mkapa Foundation through its Mkapa Fellows Programme (MFP) has deployed 3 health professionals to Micheweni district and another 3 health professionals to Kilolo district in its effort to scale up HIV/AIDS fight in the rural areas. The Foundation is also in the final processes of delivering another vehilces to Mpanda (Rukwa), Simanjiro (Manyara) and Kilindi (Tanga) district councils.
