As from time the Foundation was established in 2006 until July 2011, it has been operating with two governing boards namely Board of Trustees and Board of Directors.
During year 2011, the Foundation aligned itself to changing environment and best practices of governance, which led to restructuring of the governance board, whereas the Foundation will have one governing board which is the Board of Trustees.
To implement this change, the Settler of the Foundation in July 2011 created a new Board of Trustees by appointing seven (7) members of Board of Trustees. The following are the Board of Trustees of Mkapa Foundation:
Maj. Gen. (Retired) Herman Lupogo - Chairman.
A retired Major General who has over 30 years experience in general management in government, in military and Non-governmental organizations. He holds a Masters degree in War studies/International Relations and a Diploma in Education and Staff college qualifications for Land Forces. Through the years he has been participating in international conflict resolution, policy implementation oversight and International forums like of SADC, Non-Aligned Movement, etc. He was the first Executive Chairman for Tanzania Commission for AIDS which was established on 1ST December, 2000 and held the post for 7 years .

Hon. Mrs. Hawa Abdurahman Ghasia (MP)
Currently, she is a Member of Parliament of Mtwara Rural district and the Minister of State, Presidents’ Office-Public Service Management. She has been working with public service occupying various senior posts from district council to national level which embed her with strong leadership skills. She is holding a Masters of Arts in Rural Development.

Dr. Eden E. Maro
He is a holder of Degree of Doctor of Medicine as well as Masters Degree of Internal Medicine. He has served in several positions in Tanzania and internationally under his capacity as medical practitioner. Todate, he is a Consultant Physician/Cardiologist and Senior Lecturer, School of Medicine - Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences. He has a vast experience in health science and has released several publications regarding health issues.

Dr. Adeline Kimambo
A medical doctor graduate who has health sector experience for more than 30 years. She is currently the Chief Executive of the Christian Social Services Commission a position held for the last five years. She has a sound leadership skills obtained from holding different high level posts including being a former Chief Medical Officer of the Ministry of Health of TanzaniaShe has wide scope of working with International organizations including World Bank, USAID and UNFPAas a consultant.

Dr. Gilbert R. Mliga
A holder of Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree as well as a Master of Public Health and Masters of Health Personnel Education. He is currently the Director of Human Resource Development of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Dr. Mliga having vast experience in training health workers has also made several publications on health related matters and is involved in various Board of Directors related to training institutions.
Hon. Abdulrahman Kinana
He holds a Master degree in Public Administration as well as a first degree in Political Science and International Relations. He has been working with public service for more than 25 years holding different posts as Member of Parliament as well as Minister for different ministries. Mr. Kinana has a vast experience on private sector by being a Chairman and Majority Shareholder of different companies including being a past chair of the lead National Hospital of Muhimbili, Tanzania.
Dr. Juma Malick
A medical doctor who holds a Masters of Medicine Degree in Surgery (MMeD Surgery) who has performed several duties at different capacities in health sector. He is the Director General of Health Services of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare-Zanzibar for the past four years and has been active in taking off of the health sector reforms within Zanzibar. He is a member in several health associations like Association of Surgeon of East Africa.
